I understand that unanticipated events happen occasionally in everyone's life and there are exceptions to the policies below on a case-by-case basis. Out of respect for my professional time and other clients, please contact me directly at hello@MauraKayLMT.com if you need to change, cancel, or reschedule an appointment.
Effective communication during a session is an important part of the therapeutic process. I may periodically ask qualifying or clarifying questions as we move through parts of the body to ensure we are working toward the improvement of dysfunction and the release of tension. Such as, is this pressure too much, too little, or just right? Or does this sensation refer to other areas of your body? These questions will be kept to a minimum to encourage you to relax, unwind, turn inward and give yourself permission to let go. There is no pressure for chit chat or talk during your session and I encourage you to take this opportunity for deep quiet rest. To ensure you are comfortable at all times, do speak up if you're feeling hot or cold, you're in pain, you have questions, or you need to pause or end the session for any reason.
During our first session, you will be asked to complete a general medical intake form that will give me insight into your health history and why you are seeking massage therapy. We will discuss any questions and concerns you may have regarding the session or your current health status as well as your goals and intentions for the session. This will lay the foundation for our treatment plan that is tailored specifically for you.
Your comfort and safety while on the table is the most important part of an effective session. Once we are ready to start the massage, you will be asked to undress to your comfort level once I exit the room. Some clients fully disrobe, others prefer that they leave their socks and undergarments on. It is 100% the client's personal preference. Only the parts of the body that are being worked will be undraped while the rest of you will remain safely covered by a sheet and blanket.
I will knock before I enter the treatment room to confirm that you are safely under the sheets and ready for me to open the door. And before we begin I will ensure that everything feels comfortable and no adjustments need to be made. If everything feels right, 60 to 90 minutes will pass while we work together to let go, relax, unwind, reset, sleep, laugh, cry, or anything else that your body is calling for.
At the conclusion of our session, I will gently call you back to the present moment. And before exiting the room, I will invite you take as much time as you need getting off the table, getting dressed, and opening the door whenever you are ready. Post session, we will take some time to discuss anything I found or noticed, any questions you may have, and any other exercises, information, or suggestions as well as when to schedule your next session.
I currently do not accept insurance. However, if you have an HSA, you may be eligible to use your funds to pay for massage therapy. Please contact your insurance provider to confirm that massage therapy can be covered as a qualified medical expense and ask if it requires a prescription from your doctor. Some reasons for medically prescribed massage therapy include muscle pain, emotional stress, injuries, or medical conditions. Studies have proven that manual bodywork provides health benefits such as improved immune system function, lowers blood pressure, speeds recovery after surgery, improves focus, decreases risk of heart disease, and in some cases is even more beneficial for low back pain than other conventional interventions. If your insurance company requires a prescription, your doctor must provide the following information:
A zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment is a vital aspect of maintaining a safe and respectful environment for both clients and massage therapists. Any form of solicitation, sexual advance, harassment, inappropriate touching or behavior will result in immediate termination of your treatment, payment in full plus any additional expenses incurred as a result of any prohibited behavior, and a permanent ban from booking future appointments.
